On 13 July 2021, the APPG on Limits to Growth launched the fourth briefing in our policy paper series, which provides a framework for identifying, analysing and transforming growth dependencies in the welfare state. In this episode we discussed our pilot evaluation of Family Valued. This study was part of the Strengthening Families Protecting Children (SFPC) programme and commissioned by the Department for Education.

Research

This article, written with parents as co-authors, has two aims: (1) to provide a critical view of the English child protection system based on parents’ views and to locate these views within contemporary child protection studies and (2) to present the transformative value of co-production in the context of child protection studies both as a form of critical scholarship and as a means to influence policy and practice.

This article explores the importance of intersectionality and critical thinking for social work students and how this paradigm can develop a more nuanced understanding of Black and South Asian mothers. By using intersectionality as a framework, we can begin to understand and problematise unequal power relations and structures that lead to marginalisation and social injustice.
