New Beginnings
Welcome to 2023 and to my new incarnation as a Newsletter on this platform. I started this newsletter on Revue but due to Revue being shut down, needed to find a new home. I think I’ve managed to transfer the emails that were subscribed over by things. There’s not going to be a significant difference, but Substack does allow for comments under posts so that’s another way to add feedback! I’m taking this opportunity to write a bit more as I try to keep my voice and opinions out of the newsletter.
I chose Substack because they are well-established in the newsletter community and because they don’t charge me as an author. None of my content in this space will ever be paid, and therefore the need to find an alternative that doesn’t cost me anything to use, and that limited the options.
What is Weekly Social Work Links?
My aim is to publish every Sunday morning (by ‘morning’ being before 12pm) a list of links which I have come across during the week which are linked to social work with a focus on the UK. There will be some weeks I can’t/won’t post, either because I am having a planned holiday, or something has come up in my life but will try to be consistent with my posting in general.
The links I add include podcasts, videos, links to blogposts, articles, and resources. I will keep to the same format I have been using. Some weeks, I might not have much in the way of videos, or events (those are the two that sometimes it is harder to find links for). I add two open access research articles and one random link of something which may not be linked to social work but is something I’ve found interesting or useful. It is my ‘pot luck’ choice. When I share details any upcoming events and usually stick to ‘free’ and ‘online’ with few exceptions.
I tend not to editorialise in any capacity because the newsletter is exactly what it says, it’s a summary of links. It is a labour of love. I enjoy putting it together and it helps broaden my mind and keep up to date with what is happening in the sector but including or excluding links doesn’t indicate my agreement (or lack of it) with the positions stated, I usually think there is something of interest, even if it is a position I disagree with (occasionally, especially when it is a position I disagree with!).
I always welcome comments, suggestions, and feedback. As well as on Twitter (@vic15), these can also be added to the posts as well.
I’ve transferred my previous posts over to Substack although they have lost some of the design aspects, they can be found in the archives there. The new site is
A happy new year to you all.
